Contractors Can Improve Your Home

Hello! I would like to give you the warmest welcome to my blog. My name is Pete and last year, I decided to carry out some home improvements. Somewhat foolishly, I decided to try and carry out the work myself. As you can imagine, it was a bit of a disaster as I do not have many skills. Thankfully, I have a friend who works in the construction and contracting service. He called in some of his friends who were able to come in and fix up the mess I had made. I am really pleased with the results so I thought I would write about it here.

Building Supplies You Will Need to Replace Mobile Home Flooring

by Regina Barnett

If you have a mobile home, one of the tasks you will eventually encounter is replacing the flooring. The most common flooring project in mobile homes is to remove carpet and replace it with tile or sheet vinyl. If this is the project you are taking on, then there are some building supplies to consider. Here are a few of those supplies and what you need to know about each one for your project.

Utility Knife and Blades

The most important building supply you will need is a utility knife. It does not matter what flooring you will be using to replace your carpet. A solid utility knife is necessary to cut through carpeting, tile, vinyl sheet flooring and for making precise cuts to fit the new flooring into various areas of the mobile home.

Keep in mind; you want a professional utility knife and not a crafting knife for this type of flooring project. The blades you need for your knife may change depending on the depth of the cuts you are needing to make and the material. If you aren't sure which blades are ideal, ask your building supplies representative for assistance.

Pry Bar and Pliers

When you deal with mobile home flooring, you are usually dealing with a composite or plywood floor. This flooring can become brittle when you try to remove carpeting staples and glue. One way to avoid causing damage to your floor is to use pry bars and pliers. Pliers can be used for smaller carpeting staples and similarly small nails.

If you encounter carpeting that has gone underneath the bottom moulding of the wall, you may want to use a pry bar to remove the moulding and continue removing the carpeting. These building supplies allow you to make clean removals as quickly as possible.

Floor Roller

One of the building supplies that is commonly overlooked with carpeting removal and vinyl flooring replacement is a floor roller. Once you place your vinyl sheet flooring or vinyl tile, you may notice air pockets in the flooring. You have a window of time where you can remove the bubbles and smooth out the floor before the glue dries.

A floor roller will help with this. The roller is a push propelled device with a heavy smooth roller on the bottom. You push the roller across the vinyl, and the pressure pushes the air out. This is the finishing touch to your flooring and vital to ensure there is no air trapped that can cause issues with the floor later.

These are just a few of the building supplies you will need to replace mobile home carpeting with alternative non-carpeted flooring. If you are ready to get started, contact your local building supplies and flooring supplies dealer. They can help you with the right options for your flooring needs. They can also make suggestions for flooring options depending on your mobile home and your family.
