Contractors Can Improve Your Home

Hello! I would like to give you the warmest welcome to my blog. My name is Pete and last year, I decided to carry out some home improvements. Somewhat foolishly, I decided to try and carry out the work myself. As you can imagine, it was a bit of a disaster as I do not have many skills. Thankfully, I have a friend who works in the construction and contracting service. He called in some of his friends who were able to come in and fix up the mess I had made. I am really pleased with the results so I thought I would write about it here.

4 Key Benefits of Improved Cooling Tower Filtration

by Regina Barnett

Owners and facilities managers of cooling towers can derive greater benefits from cooling towers if they pay more attention to improving the filtration of the water in those towers. This article discusses some of the most compelling benefits that can be realised by improving cooling tower filtration.

Better Biological Matter Control

A lot of airborne contaminants, such as dust, get into the cooling tower as air currents take heat away from process water. Those contaminants eventually find their way into parts of the cooling tower where minimal water recirculation takes place. The contaminants then form a medium for biological matter, such as algae, to grow and multiply. These growths can cause problems, such as odours. Better filtration can, therefore, reduce the cost of biological matter control within the cooling tower since the microbes will be denied favourable breeding grounds/surfaces.

Increased Component Life

The lifespan of the different components of the cooling tower will also increase when you improve the way in which the water is filtered. How is this possible? The particulate contaminants that get into the tower can become abrasive when the water is recirculating at a high rate. That abrasion gradually induces wear in various components, such as the pump valves and seals. Secondly, the biological matter talked about earlier can also induce some form of corrosion due to the acidic products of excretion of the microbes. Better filtration averts all this potential damage to the cooling tower components.

Lower Energy Consumption

Your energy bills are also likely to reduce in case you implement more effective methods of filtration in the cooling tower. Contaminants reduce the ability of the process water to dissipate heat into the air. Consequently, more energy has to be used to recirculate water at a higher rate to increase the rate of cooling on the media in the cooling tower. Effective filtration can prevent this needless use of energy since the process water will not have many foreign bodies that hinder the process of heat loss.

Fewer Health Hazards

As earlier discussed, better filtration reduces the possibility of microbial proliferation in the cooling tower. This reduced microbial activity results in fewer health risks for the building's occupants. For example, the chance of legionella's disease breaking out is minimal. Secondly, the reduced use of chemical treatments in the cooling tower water will also lower the complications, such as respiratory system irritation, which can result when heavy doses of chemicals are used to treat poorly filtered water.
